Ayew fires Swansea into Championship promotion play-offs again

Swansea playmaker Andre Ayew bagged his 16th goal of the season in Swansea’s 2-2 draw at Reading on Sunday, rekindling hopes of a Premier League qualification.
The Black Stars captain’s goal was enough to secure the Swans a Championship promotion playoff spot for a second consecutive season after missing out on the automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Ayew announced his return to action with an 83rd-minute strike to equal his career-best of 16 league goals, a record he managed last season that saw him named the Player of the Season for the Swans.

Last season, Ayew was instrumental in getting Swansea to the playoffs and scoring the winner in the first leg of their play-off semi-final against Brentford, but they lost the return leg 3-1, ending their hopes of a promotion.

Swansea is in the playoffs with Brentford, who they lost to last season, along with Bournemouth and Barnsley.

The first legs of the Championship play-offs are slated for May 29, 2021.
