The Coalition of NABCO Trainees has expressed support for the removal of the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.

According to the trainees, ”the abysmal performance” of the Finance Minister is what has led to economic hardships in the country. Laying emphasis on Anas’ exposé which revealed that the Finance Minister through unconstitutional means redrew an amount of GH₵25million for the construction of the National Cathedral whilst the government is owing NABCO trainees ten months arrears.

The trainees further indicated that Ken Ofori-Atta has not been fair to them considering his suggestion in the 2022 mid-year budget presentation which he ordered the closure of the NABCO program without providing any tangible reasons and alternatives for paying their arrears.

In a statement released by the Coalition of NABCO trainees dated Monday, November 21, 2022, and signed by the  Public Relations Officer, Nana Tachie, and the National Secretary, Nana Berimah Asamoah,  the coalition provided five grounds highlighting their support for the removal of Ken Ofori-Atta.

According to the NABCO trainees, “the Finance Ministry under the auspices of the Finance Minister has been insensitive to the plights of vulnerable NABCO Trainees from the beginning of the initiative to the end, in a posture we observed as a deliberate practice he instrumented to always delay the release of funds for the payment of our stipends because the NABCO initiative was never his priority”.

Secondly, the NABCO trainees indicated that “the Finance Minister released GH25million for the construction of a (National Cathedral) when NABCO Trainees were owed 10 solid months arrears and were in a state of shock and starvation to death.

Furthermore, the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta in his 2022 mid-year budget presentation, ordered the closure of the NABCO program without specifying reasonable timelines for the payment of all arrears as a means of mitigating their plight.

In addition to that, the trainees explained that “in all the numerous demonstrations staged by NABCO Trainees, the response we received indicated that the office of the president directed the finance ministry to release money for the payment of arrears owed NABCO Trainees but the Ministry failed to pay.

Finally, the trainees highlighted that “we all attest to the current galloping inflation, incessant price increment of goods and services under the tenure of this current finance minister. Do we query ourselves how NABCO Trainees are surviving in their unemployed state when the finance minister has refused to release funds for the payment of their arrears?”

The trainees explained emphatically that they support the #KENMUSTGO agenda due to the current economic hardship the finance minister has exposed Ghanaians to, especially they the NABCO trainees.
