At least 7 shops burnt after fire swept through Koforidua market
At least seven shops in the Juaben Serwaa market in Koforidua in the Eastern Region have been razed down by fire.
The Wednesday dawn inferno consumed items worth thousands of cedis.
Some traders trooped to the market centre when news of the fire outbreak got to them.
The traders attempted to salvage some of their wares from their shops.
Fire Fighters have arrived at the scene to douse the inferno.
The Juaben Serwaa Market is the second-largest and populated market center in the New Juaben South Municipality.
Investigations have, however, commenced to unravel the cause of the fire outbreak.
2020 Market fires
It is not the first time fire engulfed a market this year.
In May, a massive fire ravaged a huge section of the Agbogbloshie Konkomba market in Accra.
In the same month, an explosion at an illegal fuel bunkering station, near the Apremdo Market in the Western Region, claimed one life and destroyed about 12 shops, two fuel tankers loaded with diesel and a taxi cab.
The deceased, a two-year-old boy, was sleeping in one of the shops which was caught up in the blaze.
