The police in Assin North have apprehended an individual parading himself as a military officer.
The suspect, dressed in full military regalia, claimed to be a member of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
He was arrested following concerns raised about his suspicious behaviour in Assin Bereku, the district capital of Assin North.
The suspect was whisked away in a police vehicle with his weapon seized.
In view of the development, the presence of security officials in the constituency has been intensified to ensure the safety and smooth conduct of the electoral process.
Authorities are keen on maintaining a secure environment free from potential threats or disruptions.
Meanwhile, voting is underway to elect a new Member of Parliament for Assin North Constituency.
A total of 41,000 voters are expected to vote in 99 polling stations within the constituency.
The exercise started at 7:00 am and is expected to end at 5:00 pm.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has Charles Opoku as their candidate, while the deposed MP James Gyakye Quayson is contesting on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) is represented by Catherine Enyonam.
