Ashanti Region crowned first GFA Elite U-15 Girls Championship winners

Team Ashanti Region triumphed in the first Elite U-15 Girls Championship, held at the Soccerman Soccer Center of Excellence on Wednesday, July 24.

They clinched the title with a decisive 2-0 victory over Brong Ahafo Region in the final. Keziah Fatima led the scoring for Ashanti Region, netting a goal in each half of the match.

The first half saw Fatima open the scoring during a dominant 45 minutes, setting the tone for the remainder of the game. Their victory marks them as the inaugural champions of this newly established tournament.

Ashanti Region and Brong Ahafo reached the final by topping Groups A and B respectively. Ashanti Region secured their spot by amassing 11 points from four games, while Brong Ahafo narrowly edged out Greater Accra Region to claim the top position in Group B.

The tournament, held at the Ghana Football Association’s Technical Centre in Prampram, emphasized talent identification and showcased the immense potential of young female footballers.

This championship aligns with FIFA’s Talent Development Scheme (TDS), an initiative implemented by the Ghana Football Association (GFA). The scheme aims to identify and nurture the next generation of top football stars.

Additionally, the 10-day event supports the GFA’s Women’s Football Strategy (2023-2026), focusing on the training, development, and empowerment of young female players.
