Ashanti NPP Caucus Demands Meeting With Akufo-Addo Over ‘Underdevelopment’

Members of Parliament in the Ashanti Region have called for an urgent meeting with the President, Nana Akufo-Addo, concerning the lack of development in the region.

The caucus, as a matter of urgency, has demanded to sit with the president to discuss the poor nature of infrastructure, especially roads.

They asserted that the region had been neglected after years of faithfulness to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Kwame Anyimadu Antwi, the Chairman of the Ashanti Caucus, reiterated that the region needs urgent attention in terms of development.

“We have Kwabre East –the roads within Kwabre East are very bad, and there are constituencies like Manso Adobea, Nkwanta, Bantama, Kwadaso… Asante Akyem North and South. So virtually, all the constituencies have some concerns which are roads,” he insisted.

He added that if the roads were fixed, it would uplift the face of the region and also reaffirm the constituents’ trust in the government.

He also stated that the caucus would raise concerns about other pressing regional issues at the meeting.

This comes on the back of an attack on the MP for Suame, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, by his constituents over the deplorable roads in the area.

Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu had visited the area to check on the state of the Suame ECOWAS Road when the angry crowd pelted him with sachet water.

It took the intervention of his bodyguards and the police to get him to safety and control the irate crowd.

Meanwhile, contractors who abandoned works on the road over a shortage of bitumen have since returned to the site.
