Ashalaja fuel station robber arrested

Police have arrested a man suspected to have been involved in perpetrating a fuel station robbery on June 5, at Krokowhe near Ashalaja in the Greater Accra Region. 

Iwejuo Anthony, alias Chibona, together with others, reportedly attacked and robbed the Pacific Filling Station at Krokowhe near Ashalaja at dawn the said day.

The suspects were said to have assaulted and tied the fuel station attendants, broke into the metallic safe of the filling station and stole an unspecified amount of money, a laptop and other items.

However, with security measures laid by the station owner, coupled with his bravado and support of neighbours, Anthony was arrested, the police said.

The police said some of the items stolen and a heavy pointed metal bar was retrieved from the suspect.

Police say efforts are underway to arrest the other suspects.

Fuel stations have become one of the key targets for robberies.

On March 22, this year, gunmen shot and wounded a private security man who was working at an Alinko Filling Station at Oyibi in the Greater Accra Region.

A police report revealed that the armed men who were about six in number, fired indiscriminately, and in the process, the security man on duty was hit in his right arm and shoulder.

The security man was later sent to a hospital for treatment.

On April 6, 2021, four robbers were said to have attacked the Goodness Energy Filling Station in Akyem Osiem in the Eastern Region.

One person was left dead and another sustained gunshot injuries as a result of the robbery.

The four armed men were said to have carried three pump action guns and a knife made. They reportedly made away with the night’s sales plus a Motorola phone belonging to the night security man, Adamu Zakari.
