A former lawmaker, Francis Addai Nimo has taken on party executives of the two main political parties in the country; the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) on imposition of parliamentary candidates on constituents at Asawase for the 2020 polls.

“I hear both NPP and NDC not going to hold primaries in Asawase. It is not the best for our democracy and that must be stopped”, he fumed in an interview on Kumasi FM’s morning show hosted by Nana Yaw Mensah Joel monitored MyNewsGh.com.

According to the leading NPP stalwart, the decision particularly taken by NPP leadership in the region preventing party members from contesting against their preferred candidate is clear indictment on the NPP as a democratic party.

“In 2014,According to Hon. Francis Addai Nimo, even if there is any good reason for both NPP and NDC party executives to impose candidates on the delegates, it should be bottom-top approach not the other way run.

“What the executives of both NPP and NDC should have done is to have discussions with the people on the ground mostly delegates so they will not feel their rights are being taken out from them”, he pointed out.

Francis Addai Nimo also took swipe at NDC youth in the region who recently burnt tyres around their Regional headquarters of NDC as a way of protesting decision taken by NDC executives with regards to reelection of incumbent MP’s bid, Hon. Mohammed Munta Mubarak.

“For violence I condemn it particularly the youth who took tyres to their party headquarters to burn. That is wrong approach to deal with issues in every democratic country like ours”, former MP and former presidential candidate hopeful, Francis Addai Nimo stressed. I contested to lead NPP as flagbearer and nobody prevented mw. Why do we have to prevent someone from contesting parliamentary primaries today?” the former NPP lawmaker for Asante Mampong quizzed.
