Asante Kotoko considering new venue for home fixtures

Ghana Premier League giant, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, is considering the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium, the Nana Gyeabuor Park or the Cape Coast Stadium as their temporal home venue following the closure of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The Baba Yara Sports Stadium has been closed temporarily for renovations, by the Sports Authority, forcing the Porcupine Warriors and King Faisal to look for venues for their home games.

In a statement released on Monday, February 17, the National Sports Authority indicated that the decision to close down the stadium was to allow the authority and the Ministry of Youth and Sports  ample and uninterrupted time to prepare for Ghana’s 63rd Independence Day celebrations.

Nana Gyambibi ‘Coker’, who is a special aide to the club’s Executive Chairman, Dr. Kwame Kyei, hinted the club was considering either Obuasi, Bechem or Cape Coast Sports stadium for home fixtures.

Gyambibi said the club was working around the clock to settle on the best option.

“Following the decision by National Sports Authority, Kotoko are considering either Obuasi, Bechem or Cape Coast Sports stadium to play our home games,” Gyambibi said in an interview with Accra based Light TV.

“However, each comes with its challenges including traveling and economic factors. How influential can these stadiums be for us.”

“We have to factor how we can get our supporters behind us, and even how to convey them to the venue we will select because in all these, economical factors must be taking into account before we conclude. It is a serious situation for us and I must admit that,” he added.

Kotoko will face Aduana Stars away on Wednesday in the Ghana Premier League before they host Bechem United on February 28.
