Kwame Dwomoh Agyeman, Communications Director of Legon Cities Football Club, acknowledges that the club received significant attention when football legend Asamoah Gyan joined the team for the 2020-2021 Ghana Premier League season.

Although Gyan’s six appearances for Legon Cities didn’t yield any goals, his brief stint with the club profoundly impacted its visibility.

Gyan’s illustrious career spanned multiple international clubs, including Udinese, Stade Rennes, AFC Sunderland, and Shanghai SIPG, before concluding with Legon Cities.

His Ghana Premier League journey began at Liberty Professionals.

Despite the lack of goals, Dwomoh Agyeman credits Gyan’s presence for drawing substantial attention to Legon Cities, a testament to the legend’s enduring influence on the sport.

“It gave us a lot of attention naturally, it gave us a lot of media buzz. If you look at the profile of someone like Asamoah Gyan, that’s huge. Someone who has played at a very high level; the leading goal scorer for Ghana, played at the World Cup on three occasions.”

“Once you have a brand like that attached to your brand, it would naturally lead to some level of attention and I have to say that during the period that he signed for the club, we got a fair bit of attention.”
