Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan, popularly known as Baby Jet, has announced his withdrawal from active politics.

Asamoah Gyan wants to focus on humanitarian activities through his foundation to improve the lives of Ghanaian youth.

In an official statement shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Ghana’s all-time leading goalscorer expressed that aligning himself with a political party has not been fair to the country’s youth.

“I haven’t been fair to the youth and the people of Ghana. Henceforth, I am not affiliated with any political party. I will continue with my humanitarian work and help the youth of Ghana in my own small way. Nothing political. I wish all the political parties a peaceful election in December. God bless our homeland, Ghana. Thank you,” he wrote in his statement.

This latest announcement from Asamoah Gyan comes as a big blow to the NPP, which appointed him to lead the Youth and Sports manifesto sub-committee in the 2024 election.

Asamoah Gyan has been instrumental in all of the NPP’s activities as it prepares to face the main opposition NDC party.

In February this year, Asamoah Gyan was one of the key personalities who made headlines during the launch of Dr. Bawumia’s policies ahead of the 2024 elections.

In August 2024, Asamoah Gyan joined the Vice President during a campaign walk in Akropong, Eastern Region.
