The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has called for the arrest of the Member of Parliament for Assin South, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, over claims of aircraft linked to drug trafficking and money laundering.

This comes after Rev. Fordjour alleged that an air ambulance and a private jet that stayed in Ghana for several days could have been involved in drug trafficking and money laundering.

Following his allegations, the government, through the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has dismissed the claims, accusing the MP of spreading disinformation.

Addressing the issue on Saturday, Sammy Gyamfi insisted Rev. Fordjour must substantiate his claims or face legal consequences.

“If he doesn’t honour the invitation [by National Security] to him and he thinks that he can hide behind his parliamentary privileges, he lies badly. Because he will be arrested. Some of us will insist that he be arrested, and you [Rev Fordjour] must substantiate that,” Mr. Gyamfi maintained.

He added that “in other jurisdictions, he would have been blacklisted”.

Meanwhile, Rev. Fordjour, who is the ranking member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, has defended his claims on the suspicious flights.

According to him, his and the minority’s call for investigations is solely based on their oversight responsibilities and concern for national safety.

The MP has also dismissed claims that he has been invited to assist in investigations.

He described such claims as entirely false.
