Armed robbers attack gold shop in Mpohor, one injured
Residents of Mpohor in the Western Region were left shaken on August 16, 2025, after armed robbers stormed a local gold shop in a violent daylight raid.
The gang made away with an undisclosed quantity of gold and cash, leaving one person injured during the attack.
Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes as over ten masked men opened fire into the air, forcing people in the area to flee for safety. The robbery lasted for nearly half an hour and targeted the popular Papa Nyame gold shop.
“During the heist, one person was shot and rushed to the hospital for treatment,” said an eyewitness who recounted the terrifying experience.
The identities of the assailants remain unknown, and police have launched a full-scale investigation to track down the culprits.
This incident adds to a troubling pattern of gold-related crimes in the Western Region.
In April 2025, police arrested three individuals involved in a robbery near Jukwa, where gold worth GH¢199,000 was stolen.
Authorities recovered weapons and cash believed to be linked to the crime.
Again in July, another gold robbery attempt was foiled by police who intercepted suspects targeting a consignment valued at over GH¢1.3 million.
The gold was retrieved and the intended victim was rescued without harm.
The Western Regional Police Command says it is intensifying efforts to arrest those behind the Mpohor attack and other recent incidents.
