Parliament’s Appointment Committee has recommended the remaining two Supreme Court Justice Nominees of President Akufo-Addo.

Justice Ernest Yao Gaewu and Justice George Kingsley Koomson join their two colleagues who were earlier approved by the committee.

In its 28th report on President Akufo-Addo’s nomination of judges to the Supreme Court submitted to the House, the committee said, “it recommends to the house by majority decision, the approval of Justice Ernest Yao Gaewu and Justice George Kingsley Koomson. The Committee again requests the House to adopt its report and approve the nominees as Justices of the Supreme Court.”

The committee said it considered the four nominees as Justices to the Supreme Court pursuant to Article 128 (4) of the 1992 Constitution and Standing Order 74.

According to the committee, the nominees have all demonstrated dexterity in the knowledge of the law and showed good character and competence.

They have pledged to interpret the law without fear or favour and eschew partisanship in their rulings.

All four Justices were vetted on October 18 and 19 this year.

They were referred to the Appointments Committee for consideration after the Speaker, Bagbin Bagbin, announced their nominations in the House in July 2022.

Their appointment followed pending and projected vacancies at the Supreme Court this year.
