Italy-based Queen-mother comes to the rescue of street children
Nana Akosua Pomaah Nhyiraa I, Ankobiahemaa of Dormaa Ahenkro in the Bono Region of last Saturday launched a foundation to support victims of the June 3 disaster and street children in Ghana.
The colourful event took place at Northern Italian City of Como. On a glitzy day when culture, food, music and, little speeches flowed, Nana Pomaah Nhyirah rallied the Ghanaian community and her Italian friends to contribute towards making life a little comfortable for struggling poor and destitute street children in Ghana.
Known as the Pomaah Nhyiraa Foundation, it is aimed at championing the cause of street children and victims of the June 3 Disaster in Accra who are still struggling to find the rhythms of life after the accident.
It was an event that Ghana’s kente became the centre of attraction for Italians and Africans in the diaspora who turned up,.
“ My dream is to help these unfortunate young people have a better future through apprenticeship training,” the philanthropist said.
“A number of people who suffered the June 3 Disaster are yet to recover financially and emotionally but they are receiving no support from the state. Those are the things we want to help with,” she said.
