Andre Ayew scores and provides assist as Swansea City return to winning ways in the Championship
Swansea City star and Ghana Captain Andre Ayew scored his fifteenth goal of the season and provided an assist to help his side to victory against Millwall and boost their Premier League promotion bid.
The Swans went into the game against Millwall on the back of four consecutive defeats and seeing their automatic promotion slot spiralling out of control.
Ayew gave Swansea the lead on the stroke of half-time with this wonderful strike after receiving a pass from on-loan Villa midfielder Conor Hourihane.
He then went ahead to contribute to a goal in the second half after beating his man and laying it on the plate for Jamal Lowe to score his second of the day and round off a 3-0 welcome victory in London for the Welsh side.
The win moves Swansea to third on the table and narrowed the gap on second-placed Watford to ten, with a game in hand and eight games to end the season.
Ayew has scored 15 goals in 34 appearances so far this season and hoping for yet another opportunity to qualify for the Premiership after leading the side only to lose out in the playoffs last season.
Andre Ayew whose contract expires in the summer says he does not want to lose sight of the job at hand as Swansea seeks premier league promotion.
“We will see. When you start thinking about that, it takes away some of your focus, and I don’t want that,” he disclosed.
“It could get to a point where that question will come – ‘Are you staying or going?’ – but right now I’m happy here.
“There’s the Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup in 2022, so I need to be in the best possible shape for those, as they’re very important to me.
“But first I need to focus on making sure Swansea achieve things this season.”
Swansea’s next game will be against Sheffield Wednesday On Tuesday night.
