Ameyaw-Cheremeh emerges victorious in Sunyani East NPP Parliamentary Primary
The incumbent Member of Parliament for Sunyani East, Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh, has emerged victorious in the NPP parliamentary primary held on Saturday, March 9, 2024.
Mr. Ameyaw-Cheremeh, who is also the Board Chairman of the Bui Power Authority, clinched victory in a closely contested election supervised by the Electoral Commission (EC).
The primary, initially postponed due to internal challenges, saw Mr. Ameyaw-Cheremeh securing 460 out of the 799 valid votes cast.
His sole competitor, Ambassador George Kumi, a former envoy, put up a spirited challenge but fell short in his bid for the parliamentary seat.
If successful in the 2024 parliamentary elections, Mr. Ameyaw-Cheremeh will serve his constituents for the fifth consecutive term.
In his acceptance speech, Mr Ameyaw Cheremeh called on party members to unite for the “breaking of the 8” to become a reality.
“This is not the first time the constituency has elected me. They have always voted for me to represent them in Parliament and they still have confidence in me despite all the challenges we’ve had as a constituency over the past two years.
“It shows that the party is resilient, strong and we are moving forward. We should all unit as members of the Sunyani East constituency and NPP for us to ‘break the 8’ come 7 December 2024,” Ameyaw said.
Ambassador George Kumi, on his part, called on party members to rally behind Kwasi Ameyaw Cheremeh for victory in the 7 December general elections.
“It is the New Patriotic Party that has won this Sunayni East parliamentary primary. I will entreat all party supporters and members to rally behind Kwasi Ameyaw Cheremeh for victory on 7 December 2024,” Kumi said.
