The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said that it has more incriminating recordings of the Attorney-General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, regarding the controversial ambulance purchase trial.
This follows allegations made by the third accused person, Richard Jakpa that the Attorney-General had repeatedly sought his assistance to implicate the first accused and Minority Leader, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, in the ongoing ambulance purchase trial.
A spokesperson for the Attorney-General’s Department, Isaac Wilberforce Mensah, has denied the allegations, explaining that the Attorney-General met only with Richard Jakpa at the pre-negotiation stage because Jakpa did not have a legal representative.
Additionally, he said the meeting was held in the home of a Supreme Court justice and that Mr Dame did no wrong.
However, during a press conference in Accra on Tuesday, the NDC released a 16-minute audio recording as evidence supporting Mr Jakpa’s claims in the ambulance case against the Minority Leader.
The party said the audio is the first of many such evidence they would be releasing subsequently.
“We have in our possession a series of recordings in which the Attorney-General, Godfred Dame, is clearly heard goading, urging, impressing upon and coaching Mr. Jakpa to bear false testimony against the Minority Leader, Dr. Ato Forson.
“All of this desperate subornation by Mr. Dame is just because he is hellbent on securing the incarceration of the Minority Leader,” Mr Nketia added.
Dr. Forson is currently facing legal action from the state for his alleged involvement in the procurement of defective ambulances for Ghana.
He has been accused of causing financial loss to the state to the tune of €2.4 million.
