The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament has issued a two-week ultimatum to the internal auditor of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Ridwan Kokroko, to provide proof of a missing GH¢110,000.

This comes after the Auditor General’s report revealed that six AMA revenue collectors failed to deposit GH¢151,000 into the assembly’s account.

Appearing before the committee, AMA officials said a part of the amount had been retrieved, with GH¢110,000 still unaccounted for.

The PAC chairman, James Klutse Avedzi, said this is due to the internal auditor’s negligence.

He, therefore, ordered him to provide the money within two weeks.

Failure to do so, Dr Avedzi said the auditor would be made to pay the money.

“Don’t think that this committee doesn’t know anything. You are not doing your work as an auditor. You are not! I don’t believe that an officer is not well, and for that matter, the file cannot be retrieved.

“We are giving you two weeks to go and locate the file and show it to the auditors to ensure that lodgement had been made for these GH¢110,000, and if you fail, we will make you pay the money,” he stressed.

This follows the committee’s order to arrest Raphael Sarfo Asamoah, a staff of the Suame Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti Region, who was involved in scholarship lapses amounting to GH¢404,757 in April 2024.

He was granted a scholarship to study law at the University of Manchester, in the United Kingdom (UK), but failed to serve bond term after he enjoyed study leave with pay, amounting to GH¢404,757.11.

He was expected to serve a five-year bond term after completion of the programme, but served only a year and went back to the UK.

Dr James Klutse Avedzi, called on the National Intelligence Breau (NIB), to apprehend Mr Asamoah during the committee’s sitting, at Sunyani, in the Bono Region.
