Allow ordinary Ghanaian to stand as surety for Nana Agradaa – Lawyers

Lawyers for Patricia Asiedu, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, have pleaded with the Accra Circuit court 10 to vary the bail conditions given to the self-styled evangelist.

The founder of Heaven Way Church was granted bail of GH¢150,000 with three sureties, one of whom must be justified with a landed property.

The three sureties must be civil servants earning not less than GH¢2,000 monthly.

The court also ordered her to deposit her passport with the Registrar of the court.

However, she is still in custody as she has not been able to meet the terms and conditions of the bail granted to her by the court.

Speaking in court on Thursday, her lawyer, Paul Asibi Abariga, explained that it had been difficult getting civil servants to stand as sureties for the self-styled evangelist.

He thus prayed the court to vary the condition to allow any “ordinary Ghanaian to stand as surety for her.”

The lawyer also accused the police of frustrating the bail execution process, as documents submitted two weeks ago have still not been attended to.

However, the prosecution led by DSP Slyvester Asare opposed the application.

He told the court that Nana Agradaa had submitted the payslip of the sureties, which were being verified by the Controller and Accountant General.

He wondered who an ordinary Ghanaian would be in the prayer of Nana Agradaa’s lawyers and prayed the court not to vary the terms.

The case is adjourned to Friday, November 11, 2022, to determine bail variation.

Nana Agradaa was arrested on Sunday, October 9, following allegations of scam, among others, levelled against her by some members of her church and the public.

She has been charged with seven counts of defrauding by false pretence and charlatanic advertisements on TV and in a newspaper to lure her victims.
