Allow Black Stars technical team to select players – Akufo-Addo tells GFA
President Akufo-Addo has asked the Ghana Football Association (GFA), led by Kurt Okraku, to desist from interfering in the duties of the Black Stars technical team.
In recent times, the GFA has been accused of imposing players on the technical team of the Black Stars rather than allowing the coach and his backroom staff to shortlist players to be in the national jerseys.
Coach Otto Addo is expected to release a provisional squad list for the World Cup later today before trimming the list down to the final 26 on November 14.
Ahead of the start of the Qatar World Cup, President Akufo-Addo believes the technical team led by Otto Addo have what it takes to lead the Black Stars to a good finish at the competition.
“Having chosen the technical team, I will also implore you, leave them to do their work. I think the people who run football clubs know what it is required of a good coach. He takes the responsibility, if he doesn’t you know what to do with him.
“What is always a problem is minister saying, this person should play, and saying president says I should tell you x player has to play. No, we don’t want any of that,” the President said to Kurt Okraku.
“We have confidence in the team you have chosen. I think we have got a very good team … We have a very good set of people to guide our players, we should leave it to them and their professional judgement to decide the best possible combinations for us.”
Ghana kicks off her campaign on November 24, facing off with Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea in the group stage.
