Notorious criminal and accomplices grabbed after burgling IMF Country Director’s residence

An alleged 29-year-old notorious armed robber, Mohammed Buzu, and his accomplices are in the grips of the police for their involvement in several robberies in Accra.

The suspects, Mohammed Buzu, Kenneth Antwi and Baffour Adjei Gyimah, allegedly have a notoriety for breaking into the homes of diplomats and the rich.

Police records show that the IMF Country Director, Dr Albert Touna-Mama; the Kuwaiti Ambassador to Ghana,  Mohammed Abdallah Al-Khalidi; and a Lebanese businessman in Ghana have all been victims. The police have linked the suspects to other crimes committed at residences around Cantonments, North Ridge, and other affluent residential areas.

The Police, in a statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs, Superintendent of Police, Shiela Kessie Abayie-Buckman, said the Accra Regional Criminal Investigation Department officers arrested the suspects from their hideout at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle.

According to the police, “Kenneth Antwi is a receiver and sponsor of Buzu’s robbery escapade, while  Baffour Adjei Gyimah is [also] noted for being a receiver.”

Some items retrieved from the hideout included, “assorted visa cards, wristwatches, mobile phones, backpacks, a diplomatic card issued by the government of Ghana and a driver’s license issued in Virginia, USA, both bearing the name of the wife of one victim.”

“Passport-size photographs of white male and female adults and many more items were retrieved from the suspect’s place of abode at Dansoman in Accra,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, all three suspects have been remanded into Police custody by the Accra Circuit Court.
