In finding a suitable response to citizens’ curiosity about the utilisation of state resources, the government has launched a digital platform called the Performance Tracker to monitor projects across the 261 districts of Ghana.
The platform, which also aims to address long-standing concerns about the accuracy and reliability of project presentations, was launched in Accra on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.
This is the second time the ruling government has set up a platform aimed at supervising the government’s infrastructural projects in the country.
It will be recalled that in 2020, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia rolled out a Delivery Tracker platform to check projects being executed by the government in all districts across the country.
A presentation by the Minister-Designate for Works and Housing, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, on behalf of President Nana Addo Dankwa-Akufo Addo during the launch, highlighted some key parameters about the Performance Tracker aimed at checking transparency and accountability of infrastructure projects implementation.
Below are some things to know about the Performance Tracker 2.0
- It is a database
The government of Ghana has clarified that the newly launched Performance Tracker 2.0 is a database that records all government projects and showcases the government’s performance.
The digital platform has two interfaces as a database that allows citizens or users to easily access information on the portal.
“One is the website, so you can go to the website, www.performancetracker.gov.gh, and you can access that database.
“The other is an app, and today, the mobile phone is a very powerful tool and sometimes even beyond what your desktop can do. On the app, on the IOS system, the app version has been uploaded, and in the coming week, on the Android, the app version will also be uploaded,” Mr Oppong Nkrumah noted while addressing the audience at the launching ceremony.
2. It is an enhanced version of the 2020 tracker [Delivery Tracker]
The Performance Tracker 2.0 is an upgraded version of the Delivery Tracker instituted by Vice President and flagbearer of the NPP, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, in 2020.
The platforms perform the same functions, but the new version has three new features, which makes it different from what was instituted by the government earlier.
The three features of the Performance Tracker are;
- User-friendly than before, and it is easier to navigate the database than ever before.
- It has gone through a very rigorous validation exercise. According to Oppong Nkrumah, experts have been to all 261 Districts to geotag projects undertaken by the government, and all validations have been updated on the Performance Tracker platform.
- It has metrics. With the latest monitoring platform, one can analyse and do the necessary comparison of projects undertaken by the government across all 261 districts, 16 regions and 28 ministries.
3. It is a live platform.
At the launch, Mr Oppong Nkrumah disclosed that the Performance Tracker was a live digital platform which makes it possible for ongoing projects to be updated continuously on the website.
The latest data set cut-off on the website, as of June 2023 indicates that “there are over 13,000 projects across the 261 Districts, across the 16 Regions, across the 18 Ministries that have been validated and updated on this platform[Performance Tracker Website],” Oppong Nkrumah has confirmed.
