All 275 ambulances to be distributed January 6 next year – Dr Bawumia

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has served notice that the much-awaited ambulances will be distributed nationwide from January 6, 2020.

With such medical facilities subject to misuse in the past,  he said the ambulances totally 275 will be digitally managed in order to track their movements.

Doing this, he indicated will also enable the ambulance operators to better maintain them.

The ambulances came under the limelight for the inability of the health ministry to distribute the first batch of the ambulances parked at the forecourt of Ghana’s Parliament while the sick struggle to get one to convey them to hospitals.

But it was the President who provoked a section of the populace during a recent Media encounter when he said: “he has refused to distribute the waiting ambulances because he does not want to be biased in the distribution.”

“The Minister for Special Development Initiative told me some of the ambulances were in and asked if she should distribute them and I said NO; she shouldn’t. She should wait for the others to come in so that we can distribute all at the same time, ” he said during the media encounter.

It appears the waiting and back and forth has ended as the Vice President, on Sunday at the NPP Annual Delegates conference indicated that distribution is set to commence from January 6, 2020.

According to the Vice President, the President will hand over the 275 ambulances to 275 constituencies.

He further said “This will be the first ambulance service that is going to do digital management of all the ambulances. ”

“We are going to track all ambulances so we will know, sitting in Accra where each ambulance is in the country, ” he said.
