Alhaji Grusah slams Kotoko management over new jersey

Owner and bankroller of King Faisal, Alhaji Grusah, has taken a swipe at the management of Asante Kotoko, questioning their decision to put the image of Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, on their newly released jerseys.

The Porcupine Warriors on Tuesday released their official home and away kits ahead of the 2022/23 season set to begin in September.

The kits, which come in red and green with the Asanteman colours, were designed by the Italian sports equipment brand Erreà.

The kits also have a picture of the club’s life patron, His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, printed on the right bottom of both jerseys.

However, Grusah, a veteran football administrator, has raised questions saying it is uncivilized to have the picture of Otumfuo on the jerseys.

According to him, it undermines the greatness of the King and has asked the management of the club to go in for a change if possible.

“It’s uncivilized to have put ‘Otumfour’ on the Kotoko jersey,” he told Kumasi-based Kessben FM. “In fact, it’s a village thing. Otumfour is more than that, he does not go to war and lose.

“Maybe these Asantes don’t know how Otumfour is valued. Who doesn’t know he is the owner of the club? Which team does that in the world?

“We put sponsors on jerseys. This is not maturity, they have already done it but they can still go back and change it,” he added.

Asante Kotoko will represent the country in the 2022/23 CAF Champions League following their triumph in the 2021/22 season.

The club is expected to travel to Turkey for a pre-season tour in the coming weeks.
