Alan Kyerematen’s timing for resignation is inappropriate – Nyaho-Tamakloe
Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, a founding member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) says the decision of Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen to resign from his party at the time the NPP is preparing to face other opposition parties in 2024 is inappropriate.
According to Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe, Alan Kyerematen should have left the party at a time when he noticed there was rot in the government or the party was not treating him fairly.
Alan Kyerematen on Monday, September 25 announced his resignation from the New Patriotic Party to contest as an Independent Candidate.
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe further opined that Kyerematen’s lengthy tenure in the Akufo-Addo government could hinder his aspirations of becoming a president as an independent candidate.
“Winning an election as an independent candidate will be a huge problem for Alan because all the appeals that he has made particularly to the youth will not wash and the reason is quite simple. He has been with the Akufo-Addo’s government for almost seven years and the time that Alan should have left that government, he didn’t” Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe noted in an interview monitored by The Ghana Report with Citi FM.
“Alan should have left the government particularly when he realised the rot going on in the party and that would have automatically turned him into a leader in the future but he didn’t do that,” he added.
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe also criticized the current state of affairs within the NPP and its leadership. He expressed his opinion that the party has deviated from its founding principles, allowing various negative elements to flourish.
He pointed to issues such as selfishness, incompetence, tribalism, arrogance, and greed that have permeated the party.
“If we were running our party like it is done in the USA or Britain, these things would not have happened. Our party is full of selfishness, incompetence, tribalism, arrogance, and greed and that is what has brought us here today. Our party was not like this years back or else I would not have been part of it.”
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe, who was Ambassador to Serbia and President of the Ghana Football Association at different stages of the erstwhile Kufour Administration, indicated that the NPP government has lost focus by failing to emulate policies implemented by previous leaders of the country to alleviate the economic hardships faced by Ghanaians.
To him, the NPP government is not functioning due to the appointment of incapable people to occupy prominent positions to steer the affairs of the state. He advised the president to reverse those appointments immediately.
