Akufo-Addo nominates Herbert Krapa as Minister of State at Energy Ministry
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has nominated Herbert Krapa as Minister of State at the Energy Ministry.
This was contained in a letter read by the Speaker of Parliament on Wednesday, July 3, 2024.
The president said this was necessitated by the heavy workload at the ministry and urged the house to confirm Mr Krapa speedily.
“I’m writing to seek parliamentary approval for the appointment of Honourable Herbert Krapa as Minister of State at the Minister of Energy in accordance with Article 78 of the Constitution. It has been the practice for some time for the Minister of Energy to be populated by a substantive minister and three deputy ministers.
“In view of the exceptionally heavy workload now attendant at the ministry, it has become necessary to appoint a Minister of State at the Ministry in the person of Honourable Herbert Krapah who is currently a deputy minister.I would be extremely grateful if Parliament acts expeditiously on this request to enable a full complement of the ministers and deputy ministers to undertake their important functions as soon as possible,” the letter read.

Herbert Krapa is currently a Deputy Energy Minister and the Board Chairman of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
The president appointed Mr Krapa as the new Chairman of the ECG’s board of directors in March 2024.
This followed the resignation of the previous chairman, Keli Gadzekpo.
