Former President Jerry John Rawlings has commended the Akufo-Addo administration for their prompt response to the cries of the people of the Volta Region.

The Former President applauded the Akufo-Addo government for including roads within the Volta Region in the budget after many people expressed disappointment that no roads in the region were mentioned during the presentation by the Finance Minister.

Some people, mainly Voltarians, bashed the government for the omission of roads in the Volta Region in the list of critical projects the government hopes to embark on in 2020 despite the deplorable nature of the roads in the Region.

Government, barely a day after its attention was drawn to the issue, admitted it was an error and subsequently updated the list to include roads in the Volta Region earmarked for construction.

Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo-Maafo,  admitted “It was obviously a mistake,” in an interview on Citi FM but was quick to add that the Finance Minister has confirmed that roads in the Volta Region are included in the budget.

“For the whole Eastern Corridor road we are doing, most parts of it will be done in 2020. A lot of the Eastern Corridor road passes through the Volta Region so you cannot talk about roads in 2020 without talking about the Volta Region,” the Senior Minister added.

The prompt response and management of the backlash, according to Former President Rawlings, is commendable and urged them to do more to address the infrastructural challenges in the Region.

“I commend the government for the timely response to the omission of some important roads in the Volta Region in the 2020 budgetary allocations. I hope urgent attention will be given to the more critical stretches in the region,” the former President wrote in a tweet.
