Akufo-Addo goes into self-isolation over COVID-19 fears
President Nana Akufo-Addo has begun a 14-day self-isolation regime after at least one person from his inner circles tested positive for COVID-19.
The self-quarantine measure started today (Saturday, July 4) , according to a press statement issued by Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah.
The statement said Mr Akufo-Addo “tested negative, but has elected to take this measure out of the abundance of caution.”
The release explained that Mr Akufo-Addo would be working from the Presidential Villa at the Jubilee House during that period.
This comes two days after the president visited five voter registration centres in the Greater Accra Region to observe the ongoing voter registration exercise.
In the company of other officials, the President visited the Kanda Cluster of Schools Registration Centre in Ayawaso East, Abossey Okai Presby Registration Centre in Ablekuma Central, Ebenezer Funeral Parlour (1&2) Registration Centres in Weija-Gbawe, Teshie Aboma Presby Church Registration Centre in Ledzokuku, and the Super Service Registration Centre in Klottey Korle.
Mr Akufo-Addo and his entourage wore face masks and tried to observe social distancing, but they were met by crowds at some locations.
