Akufo-Addo commends GWCL for rehabilitating Salaga water system project
President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has lauded the Ghana Water Company Ltd (GWCL) for completing the rehabilitation of the Salaga water system project.
Addressing the people during his tour in the Savannah Region on Monday, the President recounted a durbar in 2017 where he had announced that Salaga had outgrown the community management of their water system.
According to him, based on the current situation, “he directed the Salaga water supply system be placed under the urban water supply category.
Following up on the direction of the President, GWCL took over the operations of the Salaga water system and injected more than GH¢10 million into the project.
“Thus far, twenty-one (21) standpipes, comprising 15 in Salaga township, 5 in Kpembe and 1 in Masaka. Additionally, work has seen to the replacement and upgrading of 0.5km of weak raw water pipeline, 18km of treated water pipeline (18km), and 4km distribution pipeline, the President listed the number of rehabilitation works that has seen an upgrade.
The Managing Director of the GWCL, Dr. Clifford Braimah, who accompanied the President of the visit, revealed that two staff bungalows, together with the treatment and pump house have been renovated.
He told the President that two old elevated stainless steel tanks, with a capacity to contain 20,000 gallons of water have been rehabilitated
Dr. Braimah also mentioned that the construction of a new glass-reinforced high-level tank, with a capacity to contain 85,000 gallons of water in Kpembe to serve Kpembe, Salaga Senior High School and the Midwifery and Nursing training college
“Construction of a booster station for a new 57,000-gallon concrete underground tank is completed, and the procurement of two pumps to pump water to the Kpembe tank has commenced. Two new pumps will be procured to replace the current lower capacity ones being used. The old and weak pipeline from Salaga to Masaka will be replaced and the SSNIT flats area will be served through the pipeline,” Dr. Braimah told President Akufo-Addo
