The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has scheduled March 2, 2024, for the parliamentary primary in the Akuapem South Constituency.
In a release signed by regional secretary Tony Osei Adjei, the party directed constituency executives to prepare for the new date and inform all stakeholders accordingly.
The statement also said, “Following the withdrawal of the incumbent MP, Osei Bonsu Amoah, the National Executive Committee and National Council have decided to include Municipal Chief Executive Frank Aidoo in the elections”.
Initial reports suggested that Mr. Amoah filed his nomination to potentially disqualify MCE Frank Aidoo, who had filed with the condition that if Mr. Amoah stepped down, he should be included in the contest.
Following his withdrawal, party delegates and some traditional leaders strongly advocated for the inclusion of the disqualified MCE in the contest, stressing the need for a comprehensive decision-making process.
With the National Executive Committee’s decision, Frank Aidoo will now join Eric Apeadu Yeboah, Kwame Ofori Gyawu, and Samuel Annor Mensah in the upcoming primary.
Below is a statement to that effect.
