Akosombo dam spillage: We’re satisfied there’s no disease outbreak – GHS
The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has expressed satisfaction with the health conditions in the Tongu districts in the Volta Region amidst the flood incident due to the Akosombo dam spillage.
The Director-General of the GHS, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye explained that all the diseases that were earlier reported in the affected communities were pre-existing but no disease outbreaks of new infections had been reported since the prevalence of the disaster for the past two weeks.
“We are quite satisfied that two weeks into this disaster, we have not had any outbreak of disease, which often happens in many countries and many places. So, we have simply come to support the districts in continuing the work they are doing,” Kuma-Aboagye stated in an interview while on a visit to the affected communities.
The Health Ministry officials had as part of their visit donated some relief items to displaced persons.
