Akosombo dam spillage victims can vote without ID – EC

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that victims of the recent Akosombo Dam spillage will be permitted to exercise their voting rights even if they do not possess their voters’ ID cards.

This decision is aimed at ensuring that individuals who lost their ID cards due to the flood will not be disenfranchised in the upcoming 2024 elections.

The Deputy Electoral Commission, Samuel Tettey, made this known at a press conference on Wednesday, November 1.

“As for other particulars, I can’t speak to that. If it is the voter ID card that you have lost and your name is properly entered into the register, you can still vote without the voter ID card,” he explained.

He stressed that voters must ensure they are at the correct polling station to cast their ballots without any hindrance.

“So whether you have the voter ID card or not, on the day of the election, if you are able to know the polling station [that is all].

“The difficulty is that if you go to the wrong polling station, you are going to waste everybody’s time, but if you go to the right polling station, your name will be on the register, and you will be allowed to vote,” he added.
