Rapper and singer, Akon, has announced his own city in Senegal.
“Just finalized the agreement for AKON CITY in Senegal. Looking forward to hosting you there in the future,” Akon said in a tweet Monday.
Senegal tourism company, SAPCO, signed the agreement with Akon.
“It’s all renewable, the Akon-tainment solar city,” Akon told Nick Cannon in a recent interview.
The city will be located in the village of Mbodiène, West Africa.
The city will run on Akon’s kryptocurrency, Akoin, and will be the first ever city to run completely on renewable energy.
Additionally, Akon heads his own initiative, Lighting Africa Project, which provides solar energy for more than 15 countries.
He first announced his ideas for a “Crypto City” in 2018 and plans on finishing the city in phases by 2025.
