Akofa Edjeani clarifies decision to withdraw from NFA consideration
Veteran actress Akofa Edjeani has addressed speculation surrounding her absence from the National Film Authority (NFA), making it clear that she voluntarily withdrew from consideration for the Executive Secretary position.
Speaking on Peace FM’s Entertainment Review, Akofa stated that while she initially expressed interest by submitting her CV, she later informed President John Dramani Mahama of her decision to step aside.
“I submitted my CV to the President, but as I said, you can’t tell the President what to do. Also, the fact that I didn’t get the position is no big deal at all. I sent a message to the President long before the appointments were made, stating that I was no longer interested,” she explained.
Her clarification comes amid speculation that she was disappointed with the appointment of actors Kafui Danku-Pitcher and James Gardiner to the Ghana Film Authority.
However, she dismissed such claims, urging industry players to rally behind the newly appointed officials.
“All we need to do is support Kafui and James to succeed. You know how much I have contributed to this industry, so I believe that’s why my name was mentioned for the position. However, I have no problem with Kafui and James being appointed. I am not upset about their appointments,” she stated.
Akofa added that her withdrawal was purely a personal decision, not influenced by rivalry or dissatisfaction. She called for unity and collective effort within the film industry to ensure growth and progress.
