Lands and Natural Resources Minister has assured that the prosecution handling the Chinese ‘Galamsey Queen’ Aisha Huang’s case is still committed to the task.

According to the sector minister, Samuel Abu Jinapor, the prosecution is determined to secure a favourable outcome to send a strong signal to the populace.

“We will prosecute this case with the vigour that it requires so that it will serve as a clear signal in the country that Ghanaian law will be applied and applied to the letter.

“So let me assure you that prosecution is being waged relentlessly and when it is all said and done we will secure a conviction,” he said at a presser in Accra.

Mr Jinapor also revealed that five prosecution witnesses have been presented before the court so far.

“The Attorney General has taken a very special interest in the prosecution of Aisha Huang. I have been very interested in that as well. I have been to court to witness the proceedings and I can report to you that, the prosecution has called five witnesses as we speak. And a sixth witness will be called and that should tell you that the prosecution is being waged in a very spirited manner,” he added.

The 47-year-old Chinese, Aisha Huang is currently standing trial with three others at the Accra High Court for selling and purchasing minerals without a license.

Per the facts, Aisha “sneaked” into Ghana sometime in 2022, having changed the details on her Chinese passport.

The suspect is said to have applied for a Togo visa and went through the borders into Ghana.

Aisha then resumed small-scale mining activities without a license and further engaged in the purchase and sale of minerals in Accra without valid authority as granted by the Minerals and Mining Act.

Her return has sparked outrage following her deportation to China in 2018 over similar charges.
