Chinese Galamsey Queen En Huang, popularly known as Aisha Huang, has been ordered to open her defence in the ongoing galamsey trial.

Aisha Huang has been facing charges at the Accra High Court following her return to Ghana and alleged involvement in illegal mining operations (galamsey).

She is facing four charges — entering the country illegally while prohibited from entry, undertaking a mining operation without a licence, facilitating the participation of persons engaged in a mining operation, and illegally employing foreigners.

She pleaded not guilty to three charges, except entering the country illegally. She has since been convicted on the said charge.

After the prosecution closed its case after calling 11 witnesses, Aisha’s team filed a submission of no case on the grounds that the prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case requiring a defence.

But the High Court disagreed.

After careful consideration, the court dismissed the application on the grounds of being without merit.

As a result, Aisha Huang is now required to present her defence against the galamsey charges.

The case has been adjourned to July 5 for continuation.
