Ahoufe Patri speaks out on sex-for-roles in Ghana’s showbiz industry
Ghanaian actress Priscilla Opoku Agyeman, widely known as Ahoufe Patri, has bravely opened up about the unsettling experiences she faced at the start of her career in the entertainment industry.
The actress recently shared that she was propositioned with “sex for roles” offers, a practice that, unfortunately, remains prevalent in some sectors of show business.
In a candid interview, Ahoufe Patri stated that at the beginning of her journey, she was approached by individuals within the industry who suggested that she compromise her values to land acting opportunities.
She recalled how some of these propositions came from people in positions of influence, making the situation even more difficult to navigate.
“The issue of sex for roles is prevalent everywhere, not just in the movie industry. I remember when I was 19 years old, I met a producer who was interested in what I had to offer, but he insisted on getting to know me in a more personal way.
“At the time I had a boyfriend whom I was deeply in love with, and I couldn’t imagine doing something like that with another man. The producer became angry,” she said.
She added that, years later, she encountered the same producer once more, however, she had gained recognition as a prominent actress.
“Years later, when I became known as Ahoufe Patri, the same producer didn’t recognise me and told me he was a big fan,” she stated.
