The Ghana Police Service in the Ahafo Region has arrested three men for unlawful possession of firearms, ammunition and a drone, allegedly in preparation for a robbery.

At a press briefing in Goaso, the Ahafo Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police James Annor, said the suspects, Johnson Mawutor, 26, and Kelvin Ofori, 22, were apprehended by the Regional Taskforce Patrol team on Sunday, February 22, 2026, around 11:30 p.m.

The two men were spotted riding an unregistered motorbike along the Ayomso–Goaso road towards Ayomso.

Upon noticing the police, they switched off the bike’s headlights and attempted to flee, but were chased and caught by officers.

A search revealed an AK-47 assault rifle loaded with 29 rounds concealed in a bag.

Further investigation at Mawutor’s residence in Abrodanho uncovered additional firearms and ammunition, including a Beretta Bruni pistol, an NM157-1941 pistol, 30 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 50 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, four Motorola phones, a Contiso F35 drone, a machete, and a bayonet knife.

Preliminary inquiries suggest that Mawutor, along with Mawuli Dogba and another suspect, Mohammed Adinan Ussif, who remains at large, acquired the weapons earlier on the day of the arrest from Techiman in the Bono East Region.

Police are actively tracking Ussif and any other accomplices.

Mawutor, Dogba and Ofori are currently in police custody and are expected to appear in court on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.
