Agyemang-Badu reacts to Black Stars’ defeat to Sudan”
Former Black Stars midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has lambasted Ghana’s football system, demanding sweeping changes after Tuesday’s dismal 2-0 loss to Sudan.
The defeat leaves Ghana’s AFCON 2025 qualification hanging by a thread.
In an exclusive interview with Onua Sports, Agyemang-Badu slammed the stagnation plaguing Ghanaian football, citing underperformance across all the football ranks.
The national team is in a ditch; we don’t need to massage anything anymore,” he lamented. “I am tired, personally, I am tired. At this point, we have to be humble and go back. Because there is nothing going on from the local league to all the youth and women’s teams.
He expressed frustration over the Black Stars’ poor performance, pointing to their record of only two wins in the last 12 matches.
Agyemang-Badu questioned the fundamental skills on display, describing issues with basics like ball control and decision-making.
Even controlling a ball is hard, he said.
He also criticized the lack of teamwork, passion, and the inability to capitalise on set pieces despite numerous opportunities.
In his view, it’s time for Ghanaian football to return to the basics and adopt a fresh approach, even if it means taking a hiatus from major tournaments to regroup and rebuild.
