Agradaa jailed 15 years for televised money-doubling scam

Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Circuit Court in Accra for defrauding the public through a money-doubling scheme.

Once a traditional priestess and later a self-proclaimed evangelist, Agradaa aired a televised broadcast in 2022 claiming she had spiritual powers to double money.

Her message reached thousands, and many viewers responded by handing over large sums in hopes of receiving double the amount. Those promises were never fulfilled.

On July 3, 2025, the court found her guilty of charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by false pretence and subsequently sentenced her.

Her sentencing followed a mandatory pregnancy test, which confirmed she was not pregnant, allowing the court to proceed.

The case has drawn widespread attention across Ghana, especially given Agradaa’s controversial transition from spiritualist to Christian preacher.

Her conviction is being seen as a major step in tackling fraudulent religious practices and protecting vulnerable citizens from exploitation.

Agradaa’s church, Heaven Way Champion Ministries, was at the centre of the scandal, with many of the victims attending her services in search of financial miracles.

Her sentence includes hard labour, underscoring the seriousness of the charges and the impact on those who were misled.
