Ghanaian rapper Okyeame Kwame has shared a candid perspective on aging as he prepares to turn 50 this Friday, stating that age should not be dismissed as “just a number”.
Speaking on DayBreak Hitz on Hitz FM, he said aging is a real and inevitable process that brings individuals closer to death.
According to him, once a person reaches a certain age, particularly around 40, the reality of mortality becomes more apparent as life naturally progresses toward its end.
“Age is not just a number, it is real and a fact. Aging means we are getting closer to death, and that reality pushes me to live with purpose and be good to others,” he said.
He noted that while many people fear death, he chooses to reflect on it in a realistic rather than a morbid way.
Okyeame Kwame explained that constantly being aware of life’s finite nature gives him a stronger sense of purpose and direction.
He added that this mindset motivates him to live meaningfully, show kindness, and be generous to others.
