Afriyie Akoto Suspends Campaign Tour Following Theresa Kufuor’s Demise
A flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, has suspended his campaign tour of the Ashanti Region.
This decision comes in light of the recent passing of Theresa Kufuor, the former First Lady and wife of former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
Dr Akoto expressed his condolences and noted that a new date for the Ashanti regional campaign tour will be announced in due course, ahead of the NPP’s election on November 4.
In his statement, he said, “We have suspended our Ashanti regional campaign tour as a sign of respect for the loss of the first lady Theresa Kufuor. We will come back at the appropriate time.
“But I want to take this opportunity to convey my deepest respect to the delegates of NPP who have been called upon to make a decision for the party. The real contest is on November 4. I’m calling on the delegates to vote for me”.
Theresa Kufuor died peacefully at her Peduase home on Sunday, October 1, at 87.
The late Theresa Kufuor had a distinguished career as a nurse and midwife.
Her education journey began at the Catholic Convent, OLA, in Keta, Volta Region, Ghana.
She later pursued nursing studies in London, becoming a Registered General Nurse within the Southern Hospital Group of Nursing in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Her commitment to healthcare extended to midwifery, and she continued her studies at the Radcliffe Infirmary in Oxford and Paddington General Hospital in London, ultimately becoming a State Certified Midwife with a Certificate in Premature Nursing.
