Secretary General of the Ghana Basketball Federation [GBBF], Rafiq Mohammed Arthur, has pointed to Ghana’s success at the 2023 African Games as the major catalyst behind the organization of the 3×3 Hoop Rave Basketball Championship.
The upcoming tournament takes place at the Trust Sports Emporium at Bukoum from April 10 to April 12 with 42 Senior High Schools (18 Girls, 24 Boys) set to compete .
According to the Federation administrator, the competition has been set up to unearth more talent at a young level after Ghana finished second in the Men’s 3×3 Basketball competition at the 2023 African Games held in Accra. In the Women’s Division, Ghana narrowly missed out on a semifinal spot.
“Since we placed second at the African Games last year, we [GBBF] were thinking about how to unearth more talent so that we can keep doing our best at 3×3 Basketball so we decided that let’s do Senior High Schools because that’s the lowest youth age for 3×3 that’s the U-18’s so we decided we should have a national championship for senior high schools” Rafiq Arthur said in an exclusive chat with Citi Sports.
