African Atlantic Ocean Nations Urged To Integrate Economies
The Kingdom of Morocco has made a strong appeal to African nations bordering the Atlantic Ocean to integrate their economies to become a frontier of considerable economic importance.
Such an initiative would grant landlocked countries, especially those in the Sahel the advantage of accessing the maritime services of the African Atlantic economy.
The growth to be attained from the regionalization of the blue economy on the west of the continent would be plowed back to improve the dreary conditions in the Sahel.
In a speech to mark the 48th anniversary of the Green March pivotal to securing control over the Moroccan Sahara in 1975 from Spain, the King laid out an innovative approach to changing the grim narrative about Africa’s Sahel where the military option tends to aggravate their plight.
This would be actualized through enhanced connectivity between the 23 nations lining the Atlantic coast through the development of infrastructure and logistics in individual states.
Morocco however submits herself as the centre-piece of such a venture as he is ready to make Moroccan territory available to other members. It is believed the Kingdom’s own search for solutions could be a catalyst to transform the entire Atlantic coast of Africa.
The actions tabled in the Moroccan blueprint include, are exploration of offshore natural resources, promotion of investment in marine fishing, and seawater desalination to support the blue economy and renewable energy.
The King reckons that the windfall from tourism alone could be a game changer to up the economies involved with the Atlantic Ocean.
