Socialite Valentina Nana Agyeiwaa known as Afia Schwarzenegger has sued Maurice Ampaw, the Lawyer of Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi for defamation.
In a writ of summons, Afia Schwarzenegger indicated that Lawyer Maurice has been making a series of false allegations towards her on various media platforms hence she is requesting Ghc1,000,000 in general damages for defamation from the legal practitioner.
She also insisted on an injunction that will prevent the defendant from telling, saying, or discussing anything about her on any communication channel, whether print, radio, electronic, or social media.
In the writ of summons, the defendant has to pay costs in addition to legal fees.
The conflict between Afia Schwarzenegger and Lawyer Maurice Ampaw commenced in the latter part of 2022 when Chairman Wontumi and his legal team led by Lawyer Ampaw sued Afia Schwarzenegger, Nana Ama McBrown, and some executives of United Television(UTV) for defamation.
Afia Schwarzenegger and the four others, together with UTV, were cited for contempt based on a discussion program they held on the United Showbiz show in which Afia claimed she had slept with Chairman Wontumi.
After dragging the five to court, an arrest warrant was issued against Afia Schwarzenegger, who was to spend 10 days in prison and pay an amount of GH¢60,000.
The legal team of Afia Schwarzenegger, led by Adrian Duke Amaning, on December 20, 2022, appeared at the Tema High Court to present themselves to the court for the first time because at the time Chairman Wontumi filed the lawsuit, Afia wasn’t in the country.
Later on, Afia and her legal team approached the court for the second time, pleaded, and vowed not to tarnish any citizen’s image on any media platform.
After apologizing, the court cautioned her never to comment on the defamation case on any mainstream social media page.
It will be recalled that the lawyer of Chairman Wontumi appealed to the Tema High Court on April 20, 2023, to drag socialite Afia Schwarzenegger to the court once again for violating an order not to comment on the defamatory case between herself and Chairman Wontumi on any social media for 36 months.
On Wednesday, May 17, 2023, the Tema High Court threw out the fresh legal suit by Chairman Wontuni’s Lawyer against Afia Schwarzenegger.
The reason Afia’s Lawyer Capt. (rtd) Nkrabeah Effah Darteh gave was that they were not served any notice to appear before the court on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, which made the legal suit irrelevant.
