Afenyo-Markin appointed as ECG board chairman

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appointed the Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

In a letter dated July 16, 2024, and signed by the Executive Secretary to the President, Nana Asante Bediatuo, this is in accordance with the Company’s Act 2017 ( 992) and the Regulations of the Company.

“The President of the Republic has nominated Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin (MP), Member of Parliament for Effutu in the Central Region, as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Electricity Company of Ghana Limited.

“Kindly take the necessary steps to give effect to the President’s nomination in accordance with the Companies Act 2019 (Act 992) and the Regulations of the Company,” the letter said.

Mr Afenyo-Markin takes over from Herbert Krapa who was recently appointed as the Minister of State for the Ministry of Energy.

Mr Krapa chaired the board from March 2024.

Meanwhile, the president has also appointed the Majority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Nsawam Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh as the Chairman of the Road Fund Management Board.

His appointment, according to the Secretary to the President is pursuant to section 3(2) of the Road Fund (Amendment) Act, 2016, (Act 909).
