AFCON 2025Q: CAF inspects Ghana’s stadia for potential reversal of hosting “Category C games”
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is on the brink of a surprising reversal regarding Ghana’s eligibility to host category C matches.
Recently, CAF revoked the certification of Baba Yara Stadium for such games, leaving Ghana without a single approved venue that meets international standards.
As a result of this decision, Ghana was forced to select an alternative stadium outside the country for its upcoming October AFCON qualifier against Sudan, following CAF’s directive
However, Citi Sports can confirm that CAF inspectors were in Ghana over the weekend to assess the Accra and Cape Coast Stadia.
This inspection was arranged at the request of the Ministry of Sports, which is working to avoid a major national embarrassment.
Previously, the Sports Ministry had urged the Ghana Football Association to ask CAF to re-evaluate the Accra, Legon, and Cape Coast Stadia after receiving the initial notice.
Ghana could receive temporary clearance to host the October AFCON qualifier against Sudan if one of the inspected venues is suitable.
