AFCON 2025: Angola coach dismisses Ghana’s qualification hopes
Angola coach Pedro Goncalves has expressed scepticism about Ghana’s chances of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, labelling their prospects as “low to impossible.”
Ghana’s slim hopes of qualification hinge on winning their remaining two matches against Angola on Friday, November 15 and Niger on Monday, November 18 in Accra, as well as relying on Sudan to lose both their upcoming fixtures.
A loss for Sudan against Niger on later today would seal Ghana’s fate, even before they clash with Angola in Luanda. Goncalves acknowledged Ghana’s strength but emphasized the daunting task ahead.
“While Ghana is undoubtedly a strong contender, their chances of qualifying are low to impossible at the moment.”
Failure to qualify would mark Ghana’s first absence from the tournament since 2004, potentially prompting significant changes in the national team setup.
The Black Stars face an uphill battle to keep their AFCON dreams alive.
