Afcon 2023: Mohammed Kudus’ brace not enough as Ghana draws with Egypt
Ghana and Egypt played out a thrilling 2-2 draw in their second group match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
A fantastic brace from Mohammed Kudus could not lead Ghana to secure what would have been a delightful victory.
In the game today, both national teams set up strong in their bid to fight for all three points.
The early exchanges saw Egypt come out on top as the Pharaohs enjoyed the lion’s share of possession.
However, late in the first half, Egypt lost captain and star man Mohammed Salah to injury.
In injury time, Ghana star Mohammed Kudus scored with a thunderbolt strike to take the Black Stars into the break with a narrow lead.
After recess, Mohammed Kudus scored to make it a brace after Egypt had earlier equalised to restore parity.
Thanks to goals from Omar Marmoush and Mostafa Mohamed, Egypt managed to come from behind twice to hold Ghana to a 2-2 draw.
Up next for Ghana, the Black Stars will play against Mozambique in a must-win game on Monday, January 22.
